Into the Book: Behind the Lesson is an unscripted professional learning series that features exemplary educators effectively teaching their students to be strategic readers.
In this episode, Dr. Michael P. Ford teaches a third grade class how inferring can help them understand characters in a story. The students then practice their skills while reading self-selected books.
Listen to Dr. Ford answer questions about how he teaches the strategy in her classroom.
"Are there any people that influence your thinking, especially about comprehension strategy instruction?"
"How do you know whether the students have learned what you intended for them to learn?"
"What is the value of having students self-evaluate?" (Dr. Ford had his students evaluate their work at the end of his lesson.)
