These funky reading buddies make good companions for students during independent reading. Use them as low-risk "listeners" for students as they practice fluency or comprehension strategies. They could also be used as character masks (Allington, 2001, p. 83). Or students can use the buddies as a prop to help them represent their own reactions to what they read.
