A mailbox can be a great incentive to engage in real writing and reading. Students can write to each other, or receive mail from other classrooms. Kids love to write notes — let them do it in front of you rather than behind your back!

Make it yourself: If you don't want to use a real mailbox, have your students decorate a cardboard box or use a basket.
